LITTLE PRESS & CELLAR

72 Flinders St, Melbourne - ph: (03) 9677 9677

Come here for: sophisticated greek-inspired snacks, open until late
Don't come here: at happy-hour time without a booking; it is hard to get a table

Recently opened in July, Little Press & Cellar is a small, more casual version the Press Club restaurant next door.

It's open from 7am for breakfast till late. I haven't tried the breakfast menu yet, but have been here a couple of times for a late night snack after drinks in the city.

I actually like Little Press much more than the Press Club. Food is still quite sophisticated without all the theater that makes the formal dining restaurant a bit too much for me.

Service is also a bit more casual here without losing the quick efficiency you get at the restaurant next door.

Arrived at the bar at about 11pm after a friend's birthday drinks in need of some filling food. We ordered:

Taramosalata - cod fish roe is mixed with mashed potato, and lemon juice, vinegar and olive oil - served with hot chips.

Taramosalata with hot chips ($13.50)

The cod fish dip was really tasty and smooth. It vanished within minutes, together with the chips. I loved the presentation of the chips; they were tender and crisp.

Chicken parfait served with pistachio croutons.

The chicken parfait tasted incredible; I haven't eaten such a good one in a long time. It was really smooth without being too fatty and very well seasoned. The finely cut pistachio croutons were crunchy and had a hint of honey and cinnamon that matched the chicken perfectly well.

Great way to finish the night. :)

  2. The chicken liver terrine sounds amazing - those pistachio croutons are an inspired pairing! Who says you don't like offal? ;)
