CLASSICO

452 St Kilda Road, Melbourne - ph: (03) 9093 1144

A girlfriend and I went for a quick pre-theater dinner at Classico the other night.

Classico is one of two eateries at The Blackman Hotel, one of the Art Series hotels recently opened on St Kilda Rd.

The place, like the hotel, looks pretty sleek and modern with its walnut timber panels and marble bar top.

Service was a bit slow to start with, but our food came out in no time after we placed our orders.

We ordered:

Fresh salmon carpaccio

Fresh salmon carpaccio ($19)

Simple dish of raw and thinly sliced salmon was complemented well with the fennel and lemon. Refreshing.

Porcini mushroom soup

Porcini mushroom soup ($10)

The soup was really tasty. I liked the generous serve of grated parmesan on top. Again, just a simple dish well executed.

Classico offers a decent range of wines by the glass at reasonable prices. I went for a nice glass of sangiovese ($8.50).

It wasn't anything too special, but I did have a nice, affordable meal. I thought it was a good option for pre-theatre dinner avoiding the buzz of the city on a Friday night.

  1. this place looks great, St Kilda Road is always so busy and there is so many good restaurants to choose from too.

  2. I really enjoy a night out at the theatre. But the whole nine yards, not just the play itself. It's got to be the dinner beforehand, see these pre-theatre dinner offers for a couple good ideas, as well as the coffee somewhere quaint after the event. Nothing like a theatre day.
