AXIL COFFEE ROASTERS

www.axilcoffee.com.au

322 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn - ph: (03) 9819 0093

I first heard about this place through a friend who lives in the suburb. Apparently reviews have been quite mixed - while some people didn't like the food or service, others have bragged about good the coffee is.

Based on today's experience, I don't agree with either comment. To me, the service and food at Axil Coffee Roasters were the highlight and the coffee turned out to be a bit of a disappointment.

We ordered:

Single origin double ristretto ($4.00)

Hubby said a double ristretto tasted really good, but was not hot enough. This was his second visit to Axil and he said the coffee was cold the first time as well. Not ideal.

Chicken, avocado, tabuleh and mayo toasted sandwich

The toasted sandwich tasted really good. Pretty light and not too greasy; the chicken was well cooked.

Banana, kiwi fruit, apple and spirulina smoothie ($5.50)

The smoothie was great! Slightly citric and not too sweet - really refreshing.

I thought the service was very good. Refreshingly good for a South East suburb cafe, actually. It's not often that I come across a waiting staff that is really keen to offer you a good breakfast experience - and not just good food and /or coffee. The waiter came to our table a couple of times to check if everything was alright, topped our water frequently and served us with a big smile on her face.

Too bad hubby didn't like the cold coffee. But since he thought the single origin Colombian beans tasted good, we got some for our coffee machine at home. I've had a couple of cups a home already and loved it.

I'll definitely be coming back to Axil Coffee Roasters for brunch.

  1. Isn't it funny when a place has so many differing opinions! But good to hear that you enjoyed the food and had good service.
