PIZZA VERDE

62 Piper St, Kyneton - (03) 5422 7400

I love Kyneton! I highly recommend it for anyone living / visiting Melbourne and hasn't been there yet. This picturesque town is located about 60km away from the city. It takes about 40min to get there.

There are lots of cafes, bistros and fine dining restaurants along Piper St, Kyneton's tourist shopping strip.

I had been meaning to try Pizza Verde for a while, and today seemed like the perfect winter day for a robust warm lunch.

Specials board

Hubby ordered one of their pizza specials - a white pizza (no tomato sauce) with ham, gorgonzola and quince.

Pizza special - bianco, Istra leg ham, gorgonzola, poached quince, red onions, pine nut and rocket ($21)

The pizza was delicious. We both loved the combination of flavours. All ingredients worked well together, and you could tell they were all fresh and good quality.

I got greedy when I saw their Sunday roast special and went for the two course roast special: roast chicken with rosemary potatoes served with rocket and mozzarella salad + dessert.

Cider and caper roasted chicken, crispy rosemary potatoes and rocket and fior de latte salad ($28 - including dessert)

The chicken was perfectly cooked and very tender. I liked the addition of capers, which gave it a slightly salty punch. The potatoes were soggy and disappointing. On the other hand, the salad was really nice. Crispy rocket leaves, a bit of fior de latte mozzarella and a citrus dressing.

Poached quince crumble with Jock's vanilla ice-cream

My dessert was nice, but not exactly what I had imagined. I was expecting a juicy and steaming hot pot of quince topped with a thick layer of crumble. Instead, I got pieces of quince topped with a granola-like textured crumble. The taste of both the quince and crumble were nice, but I thought the dessert was somewhat lacking. Jock's ice-cream is always a great addition to anything!

Overall, we enjoyed our meal. Prices were honest, quality of the ingredients was very good (mostly locally sourced), service was nice and attentive and the food tasted - for most part - very good.

Pizza Verde is a place I would certainly visit again.
