Shira Nui is legendary for having the best sushi in town. It always gets good reviews and all my friends who have been there love it.
I've been meaning to try it for ages, but it is just too hard to slot it in with the kids' schedule. Shira Nui offers two set times for dinner at 6.30pm (too early for us) or 8pm (too late for the nanny by the time we get home)... :(
So I finally managed to sneak out with a girlfriend for the 8pm sitting and left hubby to babysit :)
Food is fantastic just like everyone said. The fish is top quality, both raw and cooked options were great.
The restaurant itself is tiny and in a weird spot right next to a big shopping centre. There is very limited parking around apart from at the shopping centre itself.
I absolutely loved the pan fried salmon belly sushi. It just melted in the mouth and had the perfect amount of seasoning to enhance the taste of the fish rather than overpower it.
We wanted to try more from the menu and I was so disappointed to hear that the kitchen had closed by the time we were ready to place our order at about 9.15pm. Something clearly got lost in translation; we said we would be ordering more food later when we asked for the sushi. My friend and I got distracted catching up over sushi and drinks, but it was just about 1h from the first sushi order to the main.
It's a pity we didn't get to try more stuff.
Desserts were still on offer though and we tried the creme brulle. Nice, but nothing special. I would have preferred to pick up a main course - maybe next time.
