BARKERS WINE BAR AND BISTRO

84 Barkers Rd, Hawthorn - ph: 9853 6638

Oh my God! Have to share this place with fellow bloggers and readers!

How good is this new pub? Barkers Wine Bar and Bistro is where the Beehive used to be. It is owned by Michael Lambie, chef of Taxi.

Went there with the hubby the other night and fell in love with the place. So much so, that went again with a group of friends over the weekend and everyone liked it.

If fact, I'm tempted to rate it the BEST BURGER IN MELBOURNE. That's right, forget the restaurant menu and stick with the bar options (to start with).

Where do I start? 1. really fresh, fluffy bread; 2. tender, juicy burger patty; 3. spicy tomato relish; 4. juicy, perfectly cooked beetroot slices; 4. cheese and salad make it 'the lot'. Enough said?

Burger with the lot and side of chips ($17)

Other popular option in our table was the traditional 'fish & chips'.

Fish'n'chips ($26)

Since I tried the burger last time I was here, went for the pasta with fresh crab this time. It was really fresh, but a bit too spicy for my taste. I didn't eat most of the chillies.

Crab pasta ($23)

Lamb pizza was also really good. The menu has a long list of pizzas to chose from and they have this huge stone pizza oven at the front. That will be my choice for the next visit.

PS. Even though they've only been open for 3 months, they are often fully booked at night, so make sure to call in advance to book a table at the dining area, or just rock up at the bar.

  1. I drive past this place regularly and saw it transform from the Beehive Hotel (looks blah) to a nice looking place! I will definitely have to check it out!

A bit of celebrity spotting as well - saw George Calombaris from Master Chef there. It's worth a visit :)
