PIZZA ESPRESSO - my favourite!

17 Macedon Rd, Templestowe Lower - ph: 9852 2333

I found this place by chance looking for somewhere for a quick dinner before movies at Doncaster Shopping Town.

It turned out to be a great find. My husband and I keep coming back time and time again for their delicious, Italian style, wood-fire baked pizza.

The pizzas have that really fine, crisp Italian dough. They use quality mozzarella (which makes all the difference), olives, artichoke, prosciutto... I still haven't tried anything that didn't have great produce. Expect to pay around $17 for a medium and $22 for a large pizza.

But for me the really high point is their calzone - or folded over pizza. The calzone classico ($16.50) is my favourite. Really crispy on the outside, steaming hot and moist ham 0ff the bone, melting mozzarela and mushrooms inside. Simply delicious!

Whenever we take friends there - which we often do, as everyone instantly becomes a big fan - we share the nutella mini-calzone for desert ($9.50). It's self explanatory: same folded dough of the savoury variety, this time filled with hazelnut cream and served with vanilla ice-cream. It's one of those deserts that you feel like licking the place it's so good.

To top that, staff is efficient and friendly. Pizza Espresso is definitely worth the drive!

Note: make sure you call in advance to book a table if you are in a group of 4 or more; the restaurant is not that big & always packed.
