The Kettle Black has been the talk of town for a little while now and there is good reason why.
From the same crew behind the original Liar Liar cafe in Hawthorn and Three Bags Full in Abbotsford, The Kettle Black is a great addition to the otherwise stark brunch map of St Kilda Rd.
The Kettle Black hotcakes |
The Kettle Black hotcakes are impossible to steer clear of. Chances are you've seen a variation of this picture before. It's been blogged and Instagramed so many times, that I didn't even need to look at the menu to know what I wanted to try.
It's one big hotcake with big chunks of ricotta, blueberries, maple syrup, double cream and seeds. It's soft, not overly sweet and very tasty.
Scrambled chilli eggs with cured wallaby |
I was also keen to try their cured wallaby and ordered it as a side to scrambled chilli eggs. It's quite a different, intense game flavour. Tasty, but the thick slices meant it was a bit chewy.
The space is great with plenty of outdoor sitting surrounded by a very fragrant herb garden.
You know the drill with a cafe like The Kettle Black - get there early if you don't want to queue for a weekend brunch ;)
