THE PETTY OFFICER

113 Victoria Ave Albert Park
9686 3000

Being in Richmond, we are a short distance from Axil Roasters in Hawthorn.  I've always liked Axil for its obsession with coffee, great staff, inviting space and well priced sandwiches/rolls.

Axil opened 'The Petty Officer' in leafy Albert Park in the last 6 months and I stopped by recently to check it out.  It's a beautiful space, but is yet to build the buzz that Axil has in Hawthorn.  Give it time though.

Coffee as you would expect is excellent.  I ordered the braised short rib baguette, which came quickly and was very nice.  However I struggle with paying $16 for a sandwich, no matter how good it is.  Given the mothership sells similar fare under $10, I can't help but feel that there is a bayside premium being built into the menu here.

Beautiful fitout
Axil are coffee masters, so expectedly it's just as good here
Braised beef short rib, house slaw, fresh herbs in a baguette.  Tasty but $16?
