CONTINENTAL

117 Dundas Pl Albert Park
9696 8088

Actually intending to go to Ido Kitchen for an awesome pho, we found it was closed for lunch today due to new opening hours.  We used to live in St Kilda West so have been to most of the cafes in the Albert Park village, however Continental had opened up since we moved out.

Continental is pretty standard for this area in a number of ways.  Firstly, the fitout is expectedly done well and befitting of such expensive real estate.  The food cabinets are filled with tasty looking sandwiches, rolls, and baked goods.  There is a strong emphasis on coffee, and it's full of mum's with expensive prams.

You may have read by gripe about The Petty Officer down the road, where a $16 sandwich makes my eyes water.  Pleasingly here, the sandwiches are a more reasonable $10.

Lamb Shoulder Baguette with Israeli Cous Cous Salad
I had the lamb shoulder baguette above.  It was decent, however my only gripe is there was not a lot of lamb shoulder.  The Israeli cous cous salad was combined with almont flakes, sultanas, corn, spring onions and capsicum.  Very nice complement to any sandwich.

Cheese Spanikopita with Israeli Cous Cous Salad
My wife had the 'Cheese Spanikopita' which was ok.  However it's probably unrealistic to expect amazing Greek bakery goods from a generalist cafe.  For great spanikopita, Dmitri's Feast in Richmond is awesome
