LUXBITE

38 Toorak Rd, South Yarra - ph: (03) 9867 5888

Most people know LuxBite for their macarons and elaborate deserts - the place is any sweet tooth's heaven.

The post today however is about their lesser known savoury brunch menu. LuxBite offers a small (think 5-7 items) brunch menu with all dishes equally priced at $15 that varies seasonally is served from 10.30am daily.

LuxBite is one of my favourite lunch destinations next to work - never too packed, quick service, amazing quality and generously sized dishes at a reasonable price. Come to think of it, here I am once again writing about one of my 'hidden gems' in Melbourne.

Pandan Chicken Burger with apple & kiwi relish, tamarind chilli mayo and Asian slaw ($15)

Hubby ordered the Pandan chicken burger, which was beautifully presented with a side of Asian coleslaw. The burger is really tall and a bit messy to eat once he's stacked it up, but worth the fuss. The chicken was crispy and really well cooked. The relish had a perfect combination of sweet and sour, accentuated by the chilli mayo. A decadent brioche-style bun was the perfect delicate finish for this Asian inspired burger.

My caramelised eshallot tart was equally well presented and tasty. You can tell the guys at LuxBite are dessert / baking masters at the first bite on the tart. The crust was crunchy, perfectly even and smooth and had a very subtle sweet finish. I've never had such delicate pastry on a savoury tart. The eshallot cream was  like a smooth savoury custard and equally delicate.

Caramelised Eshallot Tart: with truffled mushroom salad – shitake, shimeji, enoki and oyster mushrooms ($15)

I also enjoyed the Asian mushroom salad, a light addition to the definitely rich tart. In my opinion, the food at LuxBite is a world apart from what you get in most cafes in terms of execution and complexity. It fits the 'fine dining cafe' category.

Needless to say that brunch at LuxBite is worth a try. Just make sure to leave enough space for dessert!
