COFFEEHEAD

8 Railway Pde, Camberwell - ph: (03) 9831 1400

Coffeehead is yet another venture of restaurateur Paul Mathis of The Sharing House, Fire Chief and Henry & the Fox, to name just a few.

The guy is a serial entrepreneur and has clearly figured out what it takes to make a good restaurant, not just in terms of servicing patrons but also delivering a profitable business. Prices were a bit steeper than most cafes I generally visit.

The atmosphere at Coffeehead is relaxed and family friendly with an ample games area for kids to play around. It's a big venue and we were able to get a table straight away when we visited on a late Sunday morning.

Chai latte ($5)

As the name says, Coffeehead is all about the coffee. They have special blends and single origins to choose from and you can also buy beans to take home (free coffee with every bean purchase). You can also choose which roaster/blend goes into the coffee you have on the premises. This is in addition to their online coffee retail business.

I had already overdosed on coffee earlier this morning so I went for something different and ordered a chai latte. I liked the cinnamon dusting on the cup although I was expecting a pot of tea for the price they charged.

Chicken pide ($8.90)

Hubby liked the chicken pide. He left most of the salad though, as it didn't look too fresh.

Corn fritters with smoked salmon and harissa holandaise ($16.90)

I liked my dish of corn fritters and harissa holandaise. The sauce was spicier than your normal holandaise and  went really well with the strong smoky flavour of the salmon. The fritters were nice and crunchy but a bit too doughy for my liking.

Baked beans ($12.90)

My friend enjoyed her baked beans but like hubby, didn't think anything special about it. A hearty, filling meal none the less.

Overall, I'd say Coffeehead is not the type of cafe you would drive across town to visit. It does tick all the boxes for a nice, family friendly neighbourhood cafe, which is a much needed commodity in Camberwell.
