SUSHI BURGER - Strange But Interesting

Looking for a new way to eat sushi?
Look no further than
Melbourne's 1st SUSHI BURGER
brought to you by Japanese Cafe Restaurant J.

I received an email the other day from a friend inviting me for dinner at a new sushi burger restaurant. I was confused and intrigued; sushi burger? raw fish or cooked cow? what on earth could this be? Well, there goes a picture of the real thing:

To be honest, I didn't venture on the sushi burger experience; my girlfriend - who has been to restaurant before and swears by it - was the one ordering the 'burger'. She loves it. In my opinion, it looks like there is way too much rice on the 'patty'...

My entre was a bit simpler: spicy tuna roll. The serve normally comes with 8 pieces, but staff was nice to let me order half so that I could have something else for main. What can I say; fish was fresh, rice well cooked, but nothing out of the ordinary. It was a simple, well prepared dish.

For main, we both chose soups. Mine was an old favorite: tempura udon ($12) - thick Japanese noodles with battered prawns and seaweed served in soup.

My girlfriend went for udon noodles in mentai, a creamy soup flavoured with spicy fish roe.

Both noodle soups were very tasty and came in huge serves. I only had half of my main at the end.

Service was nice and very quick. They offer a good range of Japanese soft drinks and iced tea, as well as green tea milkshake.

I'm not sure if this was one of our favorite 'Japanese night out' experiences, but it was certainly the most surreal (and quite interesting one)! Worth a try for those looking at at different ways to explore the art of eating sushi.

  1. I've walked past this place a few times after already having eaten so I haven't gotten a chance to try it. I am intrigued by the concept of a sushi burger - thanks for the reminder I have to go and get one for myself!

P.S. You should allow name & URL comments on your blog! :)

The sushi burger is definitely different, to say the least. Let me know how it goes when you try it!
